Horticultural Value The type tree from which the species was first described. Identified by the late Brigadier W Chapman MCE, Commissioner of the SEC of Victoria from 1944 to 1955. The tree is located halfway between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek. Fire damaged in 2003 Alpine fires, reported July 2009. Reported removed January 2011. Rare or localised Historical significance A single tree, located 300 metres south-east of the shrine in the Domain, it is marked with a bronze plaque, "HMAS Ballarat" World War II. Unusual in cultivation and found mainly in the wild, the species is localised on mountain slopes, mainly in Wood's Point/ Mt Howitt area, Mt Buffalo and Bogong.
